A little more than a year ago, I (Carin) was looking for small volunteer projects for students to engage in for a class I teach called “Philanthropy as Civic Engagement.” I tweeted a request, trying to get started, and got a response from Gina Seymour:
I am also the librarian at Berthoud High School, and as soon as I looked at her wonderful site I knew this was something that would be good for my whole school, not just the students in my class. The desire to replicate the idea was born, and a month or so later I hopefully posted a DonorsChoose project asking for materials. In January of 2017, the project still had about $400 to go. I logged in to check the progress and was overwhelmed to discover one final donation, from an EXTREMELY generous donor, had been made. The project was fully funded.
And so our journey began. This site will host information about our space, our projects, and what we learn along the way. I am so grateful to get to spend part of my day doing this; after nearly 20 years as a public school teacher and librarian, if there’s one thing we need to teach all kids, it’s kindness.
